Effects Project: Fat Cock MosFET Booster

Everybody loves a good booster, and this one is a relative clone of one of the world's most sought-after boosters. The GAIN control crackles, okay? ;)

This is a verified layout.

This version is a little more parts-friendly, as it doesn't use a zener diode (replaced by a pair of 1N4148s) and the two 10M resistors were replaced by a pair of 1M resistors.

R4 (pulldown) and R6 (LED limiter) are optional and can be omitted.

If you need to do your parts shopping at Radio Shack, you can substitute an IRF510 for the BS170. Just be sure to observe the proper pin orientation as noted on the layout (DGS). This will reduce the overall gain, but it is still quite sufficient to overdrive the bejesus out of a tube amp's input tubes.
