Fuzz Face Project
I've been studying some electronics theory lately, and I thought it would be a good exercise to go back to the Fuzz Face circuit and tinker a bit. I love the Fuzz Face, but the classic, stock version always leaves me wanting a little more.
So here is the first of at least a few (to come) modded versions of the Fuzz Face circuit schematic. Note that I have ditched the Fuzz pot and added a resistor in parallel to Q2's emitter cap. Also, this is NPN silicon.
It still sounds kinda like a Fuzz Face, but with more intense saturation and a lot more sustain. It's half-way between a stock Fuzz Face and a Tonebender MKII.
Note that you can use 2N3904 transistors in this circuit just fine. Biasing with silicons is much more forgiving than germaniums. And of course, input and output caps should be adjusted to taste.
Here is the schematic for Mod Version 1
And here is a layout and PCB image that will work with the version above. I'll also be doing at least a few more versions that will work on this layout and use the same part numbers (R1, C2, etc).

And here is the PCB image (print at 166dpi):
