Effects Project: What The Fuzz?! (octave fuzz)
If you're tired of octave fuzz circuits that fall short when it comes to delivering a prominent, definitely noticeable octave sound, then the What The Fuzz?! is definitely for you.
What's going here is a very stripped down LM386-based fuzz stage with its output piped to the PNP/NPN pair (what does the octave) from Escobedo's PushMe PullYou circuit. It's simple, has few parts, requires no biasing, and makes some funky sounds. Here's a clip:

This circuit is very sensitive to guitar volume and tone, and also pickup selection. You can get three or four distinct types of octave fuzz by playing around with these variables.
